Five studies: 2 double-blind placebo controlled randomised controlled trials (RCTs), 1 placebo controlled trial, 1 comparative controlled trial, 1 trial with no information on design.
Leg ulcers: 2 studies (both with methodological flaws). One found a significant difference of about 25% in wound size after ultrasound, as compared to a sham procedure. The second study found that both ulcer size and percentage of healed ulcers was significantly improved (20%) with ultrasound compared to controls.
Ulcus cruris: One small-scale study reported significantly faster wound healing with ultrasound compared to controls.
Pressure Sores: One study found a trend towards better healing in the ultrasound group when compared to a sham procedure. Two studies found that infected sores responded better than uninfected sores.
