Twenty RCTs (3,333 patients) were included.
The results were similar from all the analyses used, and for this reason, the author only presents the data from the exact combined logarithm of the OR with the corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs).
LMWH was associated with statistically-significant reductions in mortality (OR 0.70, 95% CI: 0.50, 0.98, p=0.035), major haemorrhage (OR 0.59, 95% CI: 0.35, 0.98, p=0.042) and thrombus extension (OR 0.65, 95% CI: 0.44, 0.96, p=0.03).
A non significant trend was observed favouring LMWH for the recurrence of venous thromboembolic events (OR 0.77, 95% CI: 0.55, 1.08, p=0.13).
