Studies that assessed the impact of balance training on static postural control in participants with lateral ankle trauma were eligible for inclusion. Case studies and studies with insufficient data were excluded.
Included studies assessed balance training in participants with chronic or acute ankle trauma. Mean age of participants ranged from 20 years to 27.4 years. Primary outcomes reported in the included studies were postural sway, total sway distance, area of confidence ellipse, centre of pressure velocity, centre of pressure excursion, overall stability index, mean rectangular area and stabilometry. Characteristics of studies that reported on postural deficit following ankle trauma were reported.
It appeared that studies were selected by more than one reviewer.
