The primary health outcomes were perinatal mortality and neonatal morbidity. A secondary outcome measure was caesarean section rates. The primary outcomes were measured by assigning an index score (e.g. low Apgar scores, seizures, need for ventilation tr auma, and neonatal intensive care). The sample was stratified according to parity and duration of gestation.
