The followingresults were reported for cost per life year gained:
Within the age group 25 - 59 years and in the case of 5 or 4 year screening intervals, the average (marginal) cost (DKr) per life year gained varied between 21,000 and 25,000 (21,000 and 42,000).
Within the age group 20-69 years and in the case of 4 year screening intervals, the average (marginal) cost per life year gained varied between Dkr 28,500 - 31,000 (79,500-84,000).
Within the age group 15 - 69 years and in the case of 3 or 2 year screening intervals, the average (marginal) cost per life year gained varied between Dkr 38,000 - 61,500 (113,500 - 382,500).
In the case of the age group 15 - 89 years with a 2 year screening interval, the average (marginal) cost per life year gained was Dkr 502,500 (71,000).
Depending on the length of intervals of screening, the cost per life year gained in the case of the added age groups were as follows:
30-50 years, varied between Dkr 21000-39,500;
50-59 years, varied between Dkr 20,500-47,500;
25-30 years, varied between Dkr 33,000-141,000;
60-69 years, varied between Dkr 68,000-151,500;
20-24 years, varied between Dkr 79,500-149,500;
70-99 years, varied between Dkr 212,000-501,500;
and 15-19 years, varied between Dkr 280,000-382,500.
Both costs and life years gained were discounted at 5%. By increasing the participation rate, additional life years can be saved without increasing the average cost per life year saved (assuming the costs of invitation remain fixed).
