The standard set in the literature for the percentages of children accurately detected (true positives and true negatives) was 80% or more. The true positives for the four detection approaches examined, were as follows:
(a)parents' concerns = 75%;
(b)direct screening,BDIST = 75%, Denver-II = 85%;
(c) two-stage positive, BDIST = 60%, Denver-II = 65%; and
(d)two-stage negative, BDIST = 95% and Denver-II = 95%.
The true negatives were as follows:
(a)parents' concerns = 71%;
(b)direct screening, BDIST = 72%, Denver-II = 45%;
(c)two-stage positive, BDIST = 93%, Denver-II = 84%; and
(d)two-stage negative, BDIST = 51%, Denver-II = 31%.
95% confidence intervals and p-values for primary outcomes were not stated.
