The effectiveness results were as follows:
98 patients were diagnosed with 243 facial fractures.
Radiographic findings revealed 255 fractures among 107 patients.
The false-positive rate for nasal fractures was 17%, and the false-positive rate for mandibular fractures was 30%.
None of the patients with a nasal or maxillary fracture recognised by the examining physician had management changed by CT scan findings.
For 19 patients, the management was changed based on x-ray findings.
The management of seven patients with suspected mandibular fractures by physical examination was reversed to non-operative treatment based on negative plain film findings.
The findings from CT scans altered the management of six patients with significant orbital fractures that were not suspected by the physical examination.
