Clinical outcome values reported in terms of overall mean for nonbonded circuits and in terms of effect size (the differences (improvement) relative to the comparator) for ionically and covalently bonded circuits were as follows:
RBC units: overall mean for nonbonded circuits 2.36, difference (ionically bonded) 0.1446, and difference (covalently bonded) 0.5909;
FFP units: overall mean for nonbonded circuits 1.17, difference (ionically bonded) 0.0055, and difference (covalently bonded) 0.2068;
PLT units: overall mean for nonbonded circuits 3.29, difference (ionically bonded) 0.0020, and difference (covalently bonded) 0.9964;
probability of transfusion: overall mean for nonbonded circuits 0.3157, difference (ionically bonded) 0.0122, and difference (covalently bonded) 0.1189;
probability of reoperation for bleeding: overall mean for nonbonded circuits 0.0331, difference (ionically bonded) 0.0026, and difference (covalently bonded) 0.0310;
myocardial infarction: overall mean for nonbonded circuits 0.0346, difference (ionically bonded) 0.0048, and difference (covalently bonded) 0.0136;
