Costs and benefits were not combined. The sensitivity analyses showed that when wages and material costs were not varied, screening plus vaccination (applying serial examination) was more cost-effective at an immunity rate of 73.5%. When choosing the single examination procedure, universal screening was always more cost-effective, because the costs of testing are 80% of the total cost. Conversely, the maximum price per vaccination dose can be calculated when the prices for antibody definition are not varied so that universal screening is preferred. The price is SFr20.17 when assuming an immunity rate of 80.6% and carrying out serial examination. Screening plus vaccination is more efficient at an individual price per vaccination dose of SFr46.8 and the costs for antibody definition are below SFr35.02 (decrease of approximately 50%).
