The results were as follows:
The probability of an asthma patient with heartburn having a positive 24-h pH test was 0.81 (range: 0.34-0.95).
The probability of a negative 24-h pH test being a false negative was 0.2 (range: 0.1-0.3).
The probability of a positive pH test on OME20 having failed to respond to OME20 was 0.53 (range: 0.27-0.79).
The probability of a positive pH test on OME40 was 0.22 (range: 0-0.49).
The probability of responding to OME20 was 0.5 (range: 0.32-0.68), to OME40 was 0.7 (range: 0.54-0.86), and to OME60 was 0.73 (range: 0.57-0.89).
The probability of responding to OME40 if acid could not be suppressed with OME20 was 0.75 (range: 0.45-1).
The probability of responding to OME40 having failed OME20 was 0.4 (range: 0.15-0.65), to OME60 having failed OME20 was 0.46 (range: 0.21-0.71), and to OME60 having failed OME40 was 0.11 (range: 0-0.32).
The probability of responding to OME60 if acid could not be suppressed with OME20 was 0.875 (range: 0.645-1), and to OME60 if acid could not be suppressed with OME40 was 0.5 (range: 0-1).
