The authors reported differences in the number of deaths before (22/313, 7%) and after (32/328, 10%) the introduction of the infectious disease service. These differences were not statistically significant. The authors reported statistically significant differences in the number of multiresistant pathogens identified in the patients studied. The numbers were:
Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, 15 before and 5 after the intervention, (p<0.05);
Enterobacter spp, 66 before and 39 after the intervention, (p<0.05);
Pseudomonas aeruginosa, 17 before and 31 after the intervention, (p<0.05);
Candida spp, 77 before and 44 after the intervention, (p<0.05).
