The mean drug costs per cure were $53 for TMP-SMX, $200.42 for 14 days' ciprofloxacin, $289.80 for 28 days' ciprofloxacin (28 days), and $530.21 for 60 days' ciprofloxacin.
The total medical costs per cure were $1,103.38 for TMP-SMX, $855.76 for 14 days' ciprofloxacin, $739.91 for 28 days' ciprofloxacin, and $925.82 for 60 days' ciprofloxacin.
The model was robust to the one-way sensitivity analyses. However, in the two-way sensitivity analysis, with some combinations of improved relapse rate for TMP-SMX and worsening relapse rate for ciprofloxacin, the TMP-SMX regimen dominated both ciprofloxacin 14- and 28-day regimens, but not the ciprofloxacin 60-day regimen.
The costs of adverse effects and knock-on costs were not relevant.
The incremental drug costs per cure were $53 for TMP-SMX, $407.22 for 14 days' ciprofloxacin, $496.30 ($467 in the text) for 28 days' ciprofloxacin, and $845.31 for 60 days' ciprofloxacin.
The total incremental medical costs per cure for TMP-SMX and ciprofloxacin were dominated by the ciprofloxacin 28-day regimen ($739.91). The value for the ciprofloxacin 60-day regimen was $2,011.56.
