To assess the value of laser ablation to reduce refractive errors, as an alternative to the use of glasses or contact lenses in myopic subjects. ANDEM was asked by French National Health Insurance to assess the safety and efficacy of this new technique.

It was concluded that this technique is one of the most promising refractive surgery techniques, but still needs further outcome studies. The exact incidence of corneal opacity, the main complication of this technique, must be determined.
