Authors' objectives
To outline the effectiveness of the various forms of surgery for the treatment of morbid obesity and to estimate the cost-benefit of surgical interventions.
Authors' conclusions
Surgery for morbid obesity may often be the only treatment which can lead to a substantial, maintainable weight loss. A global intervention strategy is required for morbid obesity, including the implementation of preventative measures.
