In relation to positron emission tomography prior to surgery in patients with refractory epilepsy, where there is no focus with concordant results on usual structural imaging and electroencephalogram, this assessment finds the technology: - is safe; - provides additional localising information in some patients, for whom a proportion will have good post-surgical outcomes as a consequence; and - is likely to be cost-effective in the long term.
MSAC recommends that public funding should be supported.
