Recommendations
1. There is fair evidence to recommend screening adults with hypertension for type 2 diabetes to reduce the incidence of cardiovascular (CV) events and mortality (Grade B recommendation). 2. There is fair evidence to recommend screening adults with hyperlipidemia for type 2 diabetes to reduce the incidence of CV events and mortality (Grade B recommendation). 3. There is good evidence to recommend treatment of overweight individuals with impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) with lifestyle interventions to reduce the incidence of diabetes progression (Grade B recommendation). 4. There is insufficient evidence to recommend treatment of overweight individuals with IGT with metformin or acarbose to reduce the incidence of diabetes progression (Grade I 10 recommendation). 5. There is fair evidence to recommend treatment of overweight individuals with IGT with acarbose to prevent cardiovascular outcomes and hypertension (Grade B recommendation).
