Bone-anchored hearing aids (BAHAs) transmit sound vibrations to the inner ear by direct bone conduction through the skull. A titanium screw implanted into the skull allows removable coupling of the sound processor to the bone. BAHAs are intended to improve hearing acuity in individuals who have moderate to severe conductive or mixed hearing loss and who cannot use or are dissatisfied with the level of sound perception or quality of sound provided by standard air conduction hearing aids (ACHAs).
