Intrathecal administration of baclofen is used to reduce spasticity and spasm frequency in patients with cerebral palsy who cannot be adequately treated with oral medications. If a screening trial involving a bolus dose of intrathecal baclofen indicates adequate response, an infusion pump is implanted to allow continuous intrathecal infusion of the drug.
