Validacion de una escala de valoracion del riesgo de ulceras por presion en ninos hospitalizados. [Validation of an assessment scale of the risk of pressure ulcers in hospitalised children] Vitoria-Gasteiz: Basque Office for Health Technology Assessment (OSTEBA). D-09-08. 2009 Authors' objectives
The aim of this study is to translate and validate a valuation scale of the risk of developing PU in hospitalised children: the Braden Q scale. The specific aims are as follows:
Determine the validity of the contents of the Braden Q scale in its Spanish version.
Establish the internal consistency of this version of the scale.
Determine the intra-observer and inter-observer agreement of the scale.
Authors' conclusions The Braden Q scale has been shown to be a valid and reliable instrument to assess the risk of developing PU in hospitalised children of from 2 to 14 years of age, both critical and non-critical. Nevertheless, it is not a reliable scale in children aged less than 31 days. In children of 1 month to 2 years of age, the overall reliability is good. However, it does not reach acceptable agreement levels at an inter-observer level in some subscales. The need to carry out small-scale studies in this age group is proposed.
