Sixteen studies (n=1,119) were included in the review: one randomized trial, one retrospective analysis and 14 prospective cohort studies.
The pooled estimate of sensitivity was 95.9% (95% CI 93.4 to 97.7%) and the pooled estimate of specificity was 91.6% (95% CI 89.4 to 93.5%).
The pooled positive likelihood ratio was 10.16 (95% CI 6.73 to 15.22) and the pooled negative likelihood ratio was 0.09 (95% CI 0.06 to 0.14).
The pooled diagnostic odds ratio was 190.80 (95% CI 102.94 to 353.65).
All estimates except diagnostic odds ratio and negative likelihood ratio had statistically significant between-study heterogeneity.
