The total cost per child was $1,164 with CT, $1,579 with PT, $2,713 with CT and PT, $1,868 with PT and TT, $1,454 with CT and TT, and $3,003 with CT, PT and TT.
The DPICS-R showed improved scores for all treatment groups, with the exception of children receiving CT only and no treatment. The PBQ indicated that behaviour improved in all treated groups except for the CT, PT and TT group, although this lack of a significant improvement was probably due to the small sample size.
The costs and benefits were combined using the net benefit approach. The cost-effectiveness acceptability curves showed that, using the PBQ, at a payer’s willingness to pay of $3,000 per unit of effectiveness, the PT and TT treatment was the most cost-effective, while for values lower than $3,000 no treatment was the preferred strategy. Using DPICS-R, for reasonable values of willingness to pay (about $2,500 per unit of effectiveness), the CT, PT and TT option was the most cost-effective in almost 70% of cases.
