Citation Escalona Lopez S, Reza Goyanes M, Blasco Amaro JA. Robotica en el tratamiento de tumores: eficacia, seguridad e impacto economico de equipos de ultrasonidos focalizados de alta intensidad (HIFU-ExAblate). [Efficacy, safety of high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU-ExAblate)] Madrid: Unidad de Evaluacion de Tecnologias Sanitarias (UETS). UETS No 2006/09. 2008 Authors' objectives <pTo assess the ef!cacy, safety of high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) guided by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). ExAblate® is a minimally invasive treatment where thermal ablation is used to reduce the size of tissues. 55-90ºC for a few seconds causes cell death at the focal points. MRI monitoring is used to give tridimensional imaging at the target tissue, minimize the risk of injuring adjacent organs and permit to detect the changes in temperature. Authors' conclusions ExAblate® is a new technology used in the treatment of uterine fibroids with some more experiences mainly in breast cancer. There is not enough evidence level about the ef!cacy.Additional studies focusing on posttreatment evaluation and for evaluating the ef!cacy and effectiveness in comparative with other methods are needed with a high number of patients and long-term follow-up.
