Anti-mog (myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein) antibodies for the diagnosis of optic neuromyelitis and other demyelinating diseases. Buenos Aires: Institute for Clinical Effectiveness and Health Policy (IECS). Documentos de Evaluación de Tecnologías Sanitarias, Informe de Respuesta Rápida N° 461. 2016 Authors' conclusions The evidence on the usefulness of myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody test to diagnose optic neuromyelitis is of low quality. No studies assessing the accuracy of this test in differentiating this disease from multiple sclerosis or other demyelinating diseases have been found. Its use is proposed when diagnosis cannot be made using the specific anti-aquaporin-4 antibodies test but even in theses cases, there is not enough evidence to ensure its usefulness. In addition, there is not enough evidence to support its role in clinical prognosis of these diseases. The clinical practice guidelines surveyed do not consider its use or consider it of uncertain usefulness. The health sponsors surveyed consider this technology as experimental.
