Citation Mengarelli C, Rey-Ares L, Pichon-Riviere A, Augustovski F, García Martí S, Alcaraz A, Bardach A, Ciapponi A, López A. Endoscopic ultrasound elastography. Buenos Aires: Institute for Clinical Effectiveness and Health Policy (IECS). Informe de Respuesta Rapida No. 489. 2016 Authors' conclusions Low methodological quality evidence suggests that endoscopic ultrasound elastography, when compared with histology, might have high sensitivity and moderate specificity for solid pancreatic tumor diagnosis as well as moderate sensitivity and specificity for lymph node diseases and rectal cancer. Its diagnostic usefulness could not be demonstrated in gastrointestinal stromal or lung tumors; studies considering other tumors could not be found. None of the studies found compared endoscopic ultrasound elastography with conventionally used imaging studies or assessed its impact on prognosis and treatment.
Only one European clinical practice guideline recommends its use for solid pancreatic tumors and lymph node tumors. The American and Japanese guidelines, as well as one United States private health sponsor, consider it at experimental stage.
