Citation Gonzalez L, Augustovski F, Pichon-Riviere A, García Martí S, Alcaraz A, Bardach A, Ciapponi A, López A, Rey-Ares L. Trigeminal nerve stimulation to treat neuralgia. Buenos Aires: Institute for Clinical Effectiveness and Health Policy (IECS). Informe de Respuesta Rapida No. 484. 2016 Authors' conclusions The evidence supporting trigeminal nerve stimulation (on the Gasser's ganglion or one of its branches) to treat neuralgia is limited and of very low quality. This prevents from drawing conclusions about its safety and efficacy. Although some case series show there might be certain clinical benefits, most studies are very heterogeneous and include groups of patients with different etiologies and severity grades. The recommendations from different International Societies do not mention or recommend it among trigeminal neuralgia treatment options. None of the Health Sponsors assessed cover it, and they consider it still at investigational stage.
