Citation Klappenbach R, Augustovski F, Pichon-Riviere A, García Martí S, Alcaraz A, Bardach A, Ciapponi A, López A, Rey-Ares L. [Transbronchial lung cryobiopsy in diffuse interstitial lung disease diagnosis] Buenos Aires: Institute for Clinical Effectiveness and Health Policy (IECS). Documentos de Evaluación de Tecnologías Sanitarias, Informe de Respuesta Rapida No 516. 2017 Authors' conclusions Very low quality evidence suggests that transbronchial lung cryobiopsy for diffuse interstitial lung disease diagnosis would have a lower mortality than the videothoracoscopic lung biopsy, although with a lower diagnostic yield and a higher number of mild to moderate complications.
Because of the little evidence and the lower diagnostic yield, the few CPGs mentioning cryobiopsy, describe it as a less invasive alternative for patients at high surgical risk. No coverage policies were found covering this technology.
