Record Status This is a bibliographic record of a published health technology assessment from a member of INAHTA. No evaluation of the quality of this assessment has been made for the HTA database. Citation Vreugdenburg T, Wild C. Prostate artery embolisation for benign prostatic hyperplasia. Vienna: Ludwig Boltzmann Institut fuer Health Technology Assessment (LBIHTA). Decision Support Document. 2017 Authors' conclusions There are four different types of embolisation agents (all CE-marked, none with FDA approval) that can be used in PAE, which vary in size and material. A total of three comparative studies with 306 patients are available for analysis of efficacy; the included RCTs make contradictory statements regarding improvements in IPSS and HRQoL after 12 months. The most commonly reported side effects associated with PAE in all studies were minor. Currently, five RCTs are ongoing comparing PAE to TURP, the end of which is scheduled for February 2021. A new evaluation is proposed in the year 2021, if results from RCTs are available by then.
