Types of study to be included
No restrictions on the types of study design eligible for inclusion
Condition or domain being studied
Pediatric melanoma may develop de novo or may be associated with a congenital melanocytic nevus. The goal of the review is to analyze clinical features of both forms through a systematic literature survey.
Participants/ population
Inclusion:
- diagnosed with malignant melanoma before 18th birthday.
- congenital melanocytic nevus.
- death from cutaneous/cerebral malignant melanoma and/or neurocutaneous melanocytosis.
Exclusion:
- loss of follow-up, unclear if the patient survived (therefore unclear malignancy of the lesion).
Intervention(s), exposure(s)
The differences between both groups (see field 18) will be detectable by comparison between pediatric melanoma in persons with/without congenital melanocytic nevi, regarding a number of anamnestical, clinical, and histological variables.
Comparator(s)/ control
Pediatric melanoma in persons with/without congenital melanocytic nevi
Context
Pediatric melanoma in persons with/without congenital melanocytic nevi
Outcome(s)
Primary outcomes
Anamnestical, clinical, and histological variables differentiating between published cases of pediatric melanoma in persons with/without congenital melanocytic nevi
Secondary outcomes
None
Risk of bias (quality) assessment
-selection of more severe or interesting cases for publication.
-the quality of each individual study is judged by assessment of the anamnestical, clinical, and histological information for each patient, and by the presence/absence of pictures.
-the information of each study will be presented as a detailed, structured table.
Strategy for data synthesis
Quantitative or narrative (descriptive) synthesis is planned.
SPSS
Analysis of subgroups or subsets
None planned
