Types of study to be included
Included:
Peer-reviewed journal articles of observational (cross-sectional, case-control, cohort) and interventional (Randomized trial, RCT) studies.
Excluded:
Commentaries/editorials in journals, non-peer-reviewed articles, conference abstracts.
Condition or domain being studied
Type 2 diabetes mellitus comprehensive management; initiation and maintenance of social support for lifestyle modification; outcome is diabetes control.
Participants/ population
Inclusion criteria:
Adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Existing spouse.
Exclusion criteria:
None.
Intervention(s), exposure(s)
Exposure:
Social support from spouse.
Intervention:
Targeted interventions purposed to modify spouse social support.
Comparator(s)/ control
Intervention comparison:
Usual care for type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Primary outcomes
A1C and/or blood plasma glucose
Secondary outcomes
BMI/waist-to-hip, blood pressure, cholesterol/lipids, social support measures
