No statistically significant differences were found in the duration of the intervention, in the average time of recovery of intestinal function, in the number of resected lymph nodes or in the duration of the hospital stay.
The percentage of postoperative complications was greater among those intervened with conventional laparoscopy (15% as opposed to 7.5%) although no death took place place.
The acquisition of the system would involve an investment of 1.1-1.2 million Euros plus an annual maintenance of approximately one quarter of the purchase price of the robot. The direct costs derived from the use of the operating theatre and equipment in the colon surgery, as well as the total direct costs of the hospital stay were similar in the group with
conventional laparoscopic surgery and in the group intervened with the robotic system, although the costs of acquisition of the robot were not included in this analysis.
