Citation Warmuth M, Adlbrecht C. Radiofrequenzablation bei prim rtumoren des gastrointestinaltrakts (kolorektal- und pankreaskarzinom). [Radiofrequency ablation of primary tumors of the gastrointestinal tract (colorectal and pancreatic cancer)]
. Vienna: Ludwig Boltzmann Institut fuer Health Technology Assessment (LBIHTA). Decision Support Dokument Nr: 58. 2012 Authors' objectives Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is a relatively new, percutaneous minimallyinvasive, endoscopic or intraoperative ablation method which destroys tumors by local application of heat. This systematic review evaluates two indications
of RFA for the treatment of gastrointestinal primary tumors: colorectal cancer and pancreatic cancer. Dependent on the tumor stage, surgery and/or chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy represent the gold-standard of treatment. However, in advanced disease stages and patients with severe comorbidities, these interventions may not be feasible. In these cases, RFA may represent an alternative or complementary treatment option. Authors' conclusions According to GRADE, the quality of evidence is very low due to the uncontrolled study design of the included case-series. Overall, the available evidence is insufficient to assess the efficacy and safety of RFA for the treatment of pancreatic cancer. Furthermore, there is no evidence concerning RFA for the treatment of colorectal cancer. Currently, the inclusion into the hospital benefit catalogue is not recommended.
