NECA-M-11-004. 2012 Authors' conclusions A survey was conducted among 3,633 subjects with ages over twenty and less than seventy in order to examine their experience or plan for receiving thyroid cancer screening tests and their recognition on the risk of thyroid cancer. A total of 846 (23.3%) subjects received thyroid ultrasonography.
Estimation using health screening center survey data was that Korea expends from 121 billion to 1,490.5 billion won annually for thyroid ultrasonography tests.
When calculating as 281,006 patients excluding the top 1% of costs in the total thyroid nodule patients, about 200 billion won was assumed as health insurance expenses due to thyroid nodules.
