Citation CyberKnife robotic radiosurgery system (Accuray Inc.) for treatment of prostate cancer. Lansdale: HAYES, Inc.. Healthcare Technology Brief Publication. 2014 Authors' conclusions The CyberKnife Robotic Radiosurgery System is a full-body robotic radiosurgery system optimized to deliver radiosurgery and stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) noninvasively throughout the body. A radiation delivery device is mounted on a robotic arm that uses software and advanced imaging to track and automatically correct for tumor motion in real time during treatment, enabling accurate delivery of high doses of radiation while minimizing effects on surrounding healthy tissue. Hypofractionated treatment of prostate cancer can be completed in 1 or 2 weeks as compared with 8 to 9 weeks for conventional radiotherapy. A shorter treatment course may be more cost-effective, reduce travel costs, allow earlier return to work, and provide a more convenient option for patients.
