Citation Ruano R, López A, Pichon-Riviere A, Augustovski F, García Martí S, Alcaraz A, Bardach A, Ciapponi A, Rey-Ares L. Trasplante de células madre en insuficiencia cardíaca. [Stem cell transplantation in heart failure] Buenos Aires: Institute for Clinical Effectiveness and Health Policy (IECS). Informe de Respuesta Rapida No. 414. 2015 Authors' objectives To assess the available evidence on the efficacy, safety and coverage related aspects on the use of bone marrow stem cell transplant in heart failure Authors' conclusions The evidence found is considered low quality given the study heterogeneity, the high risk of bias and lack of long-term studies assessing the benefit, effectiveness and safety of the technology.
Even though the published studies show a potential reduction in long-term mortality in patients with chronic heart failure, and a slight improvement in the left ventricle ejection fraction in patients with acute or chronic, ischemic or non ischemic heart failure, it is currently considered an experimental technology carried out in research protocols.
