The authors stated that 36 studies were included but details of only 35 studies were presented in the tables (n=272); the sample size ranged from 1 to 26 women.
Fluoxetine (10 studies).
M/P ratios ranged from 0.1 to 6.09 for fluoxetine and from 0.08 to 2.08 for norfluoxetine. One case study reported irritability in the child, another reported somnolence, lethargy, fever and unresponsiveness in the child, and a third study of 14 women reported two cases of colic and two cases of withdrawal syndrome in the infant. None of the other studies reported any repercussions on clinical outcomes. M/P levels were similar in studies that did and did not report repercussions.
Paroxetine (8 studies).
M/P ratios ranged from 0.06 to 3.33. None of the studies reported repercussions on clinical outcomes.
Sertraline (7 studies).
M/P ratios ranged from 0.48 to 4.81. None of the studies reported repercussions on clinical outcomes.
Citalopram and escitalopram (10 studies).
M/P ratios ranged from 0.9 to 4.3. One case study reported uneasy sleep in the infant that resolved following a reduction in maternal dose; a second case study reported sleep and respiratory disturbances and hypo/hypertonia. None of the other studies reported any repercussions on clinical outcomes. M/P levels were similar in studies that did and did not report repercussions.
Fluvoxamine (5 studies).
M/P ratios ranged from 0.29 to 1.59. None of the studies reported repercussions on clinical outcomes.
