Citation Rapid antibody tests for HIV screening. Lansdale: HAYES, Inc.. Directory Publication. 2011 Authors' conclusions Rapid human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) antibody tests can be performed at the point of care and results can usually be provided within a few minutes, which is much faster than HIV antibody tests that use enzyme immunoassays (EIAs) or enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) methodology. The goal of rapid HIV testing is to improve access to testing and to increase the number of patients who get tested and who receive results, with the objective of reducing the prevalence of unrecognized infections, which is essential for appropriate and timely treatment and as part of an overall disease control strategy.
