Citation Computer-aided total hip arthroplasty. Lansdale: HAYES, Inc.. Directory Publication. 2012 Authors' conclusions Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is performed to relieve pain and restore mobility and function of a diseased or damaged hip, thereby improving quality of life. Computer-aided surgery (CAS; also known as computer-assisted surgery) systems for THA are used to plan and guide surgical cuts and positioning of the hip prosthesis components. The goal is to achieve precise placement and thereby increase prosthesis survival and improve health outcomes such as hip stability and function. Compared with conventional THA, CAS uses smaller incisions and less soft-tissue dissection as a means to reduce blood loss and tissue damage, and shorten recovery and rehabilitation time.
