Citation Transarterial chemoembolization plus radiofrequency ablation for liver cancer. Lansdale: HAYES, Inc.. Directory Publication. 2012 Authors' conclusions Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) and radiofrequency ablation (RFA) are minimally invasive treatments for tumors in the liver. TACE involves injection of chemotherapy agents and occluding substances into the hepatic arteries that supply blood to tumors, and RFA involves insertion of a metal electrode or electrodes and application of an electric current to generate heat that destroys cells in and around the tumor. The goal of these procedures is to cut off blood flow to and destroy tumor tissue, while sparing normal liver tissue.
