Putrajaya: Malaysian Health Technology Assessment (MaHTAS). 2014 Authors' objectives The objective of this technology review was to assess the safety, efficacy/effectiveness and cost effectiveness of Enercel® for the treatment of infectious diseases (such as TB, HIV, diarrhoea and allergic disease of the upper respiratory tract) and motor neuron disease (such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis).
Authors' conclusions There was one published literature on Enercel® (a case series) included in this technology review. In addition, there were five unpublished articles (three non-randomised controlled trials and two cross sectional study).
There was limited and low level evidence to suggest that Enercel® or EnerpunctureTM may be safe and effective to be used in the treatment of people with infectious diseases and motor neuron disease. The methodology of five unpublished articles were not clear, hence the quality of those studies cannot be assessed. In addition, there was no published literature evidence on the safety and costeffectiveness.
One unpublished articles reported no adverse events on the use of Enercel® for the treatment of multi-drug resistant TB patients. Higher quality studies are required to provide more evidence on the efficacy/effectiveness, safety and cost-effectiveness of Enercel®
